Is centred around 27 character qualities of God.
God’s character qualities are studied within the context of each subject, thus ensuring that the child grows up understanding that God is in control of every area of life, and must be honoured and obeyed in everything.
-
Is non-denominational.
Although T.C.E. is firmly committed to the basic truths of Biblical Christianity, we are not affiliated to any particular church or denomination.
-
Strives for a high academic standard.
Quality Christian textbooks (imported from America) are used wherever possible. We supply our own notes on South African History and Geography, and are in the process of writing our own Afrikaans material.
-
Leads to an international qualification.
We prepare our pupils to write the Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) and the Cambridge A Levels. The IGCSE exams are written in Grade 11 and the A Level exams are written over two years: AS Level in Grade 12 and A2 Level in Grade 13. For the purposes of a South African Matric exemption, the AS levels are acceptable. South African tertiary institutions are happy to accept Cambridge qualifications.
-
Is geared specially for parents who are not qualified teachers.
It is not necessary to be a “qualified” teacher in order to teach your own child. What is necessary, however, is that parents are involved in the learning process. We assist you by providing you with suitable textbooks, a scheme of work, a suggested timetable, continuous evaluation procedures and formal exams set by us twice a year.
-
Is based on a relationship principle of teaching.
T.C.E. is not a self-study system. Parental involvement is essential. This ensures a God-Parent-Child relationship, as the parent and the child study together.
-
Assists parents in identifying and solving various problems to do with the child’s education.
Children are taught to read on a phonics-based method, which results in the ability to read properly by the end of Grade 1. For children with reading problems who come in further up the school we have a “step-by-step” reading programme, which can be purchased separately. There is no time-limit on T.C.E. work or exams; if a pupil finds it difficult to cope with the amount or type of work, we recommend that the parent slow the pace and deal with the problem. Exams can be sent in late; they will still be marked and a report sent. (Exams cannot be written early.) We offer a Help line which can be telephoned during office hours on 021 557 2612, as well as an email and fax line: tcecc@mweb.co.za / 2721 556 1277. This deals with all aspects of the T.C.E. System and Curriculum, including any queries regarding your child’s education.
